Mercedes Racer for the street

Mercedes Racer for the street

Don’t let the alphabet soup of a name fool you, the Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG is serious about its numbers. How do these strike you?

582 (horsepower).

200 (mph).

300,000 (dollars).

But just as impressive as the big numbers are the small ones:

3.9 (zero-60 time).

180 (the total number of coupes (100) and convertibles (80) that Mercedes built).

3 (how many championships the CLK won in the four years it was campaigned in the DTM).

The DTM street car was built to commemorate the CLK’s success on the track by turning the CLK 55 AMG from sporty coupe to firebreathing supercar. In went the supercharged version of the 5.4L V-8 from the AMG SL and E-classes. Higher performance cams and more boost from the supercharger gave it an extra 90 horses. The aggressive body kit is quite out of character for a factory Mercedes, but necessary to cover the 285/30 tires on 20-inch wheels. As a bonus, it makes the car look very much like its on-track cousin.

Kyosho does a number of Mercedes diecasts, but the CLK DTM AMG cars are some of the most exciting. They are available in both styles (coupe and convertible), in two scales and in several colors. Of course silver is the most appropriate. Detail on the carbon-fiber and festooned interior with its racing seats and paddle-shifted transmission.
