CONTRIBUTOR GUIDELINES—DieCast X Magazine Thanks for your interest in contributing to DieCast X Magazine. These are the general guidelines for article submissions, and they should answer most of the common questions contributors have. If you have a question that is not addressed here, please feel free to email the editors at firstname.lastname@example.org for more specific information or instructions.
Unsolicited Submissions: DieCast X does welcome unsolicited material, provided it meets the general criteria set forth below. If, after reading these guidelines, you have an article you feel would fit well in DieCast X, please send it in through one of the means described under ‘How to Submit’.
Article Ideas: If you have an idea for an article that you would like to be considered for publication in DieCast X, the best thing to do is to contact the editorial staff with a well-organized description or outline of your proposed article. If we like the idea, we will give you the go-ahead, along with a deadline and further instructions as needed. This is the most reliable means of becoming a contributor, and can save you time and effort by letting you know in advance if a certain article concept cannot be used.
How to Submit: You may email your materials to email@example.com. Be sure to put “Article Submission” in the subject line so it gets routed to the appropriate location. You may also mail a CD, DVD or floppy disk with your submission to:

Length: Word-count varies with the type of article and the topic, but our general requirements are as follows:
Full Reviews: 1000 to 1600 words, plus specs and ratings.
Quick Looks: (mini reviews): 500 words
In Search Of: (back page): 500 words
Features: 1200 to 2000 words

Deadlines: Authors of assigned articles will be given a deadline by their editor at the time of assignment. Unsolicited articles, if accepted, will be scheduled according to editorial requirements. Please send your article with everything clearly labeled, as far in advance of the deadline as possible. Please note that authors of all accepted articles—assigned and unsolicited—must be available to answer questions and make corrections or revisions as requested by the editors in a timely fashion as the article nears publication.
Compensation: Our compensation is paid on an article-by-article basis and is competitive within the industry. A check will be issued upon publication of your material.
Exclusivity: Unless otherwise agreed, our standard acceptance agreement specifies that any article we publish be exclusive to DieCast X, and not have been accepted for publication in any other magazine or on the web.
Copyright: Unless otherwise agreed, our standard acceptance agreement specifies that we buy all rights to the article and photographs.
Returning Materials: If you’d like us to return your material, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope; we do not return unsolicited material without a SASE. PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES The majority of product review photography for DieCast X is done by our own photographers in our studio. Acceptance of an article may be contingent on our ability to obtain a photo sample for this purpose. We often feature photos of full-size vehicles, people and a variety of other non-product photography in DieCast X, and this may need to be supplied by the author of the article. Acceptance of a feature article may be contingent on the availability of suitable photo support.
Digital Photography Requirements: DieCast X accepts most standard digital photo formats, with TIFF, JPEG and RAW file types in RGB color format being most preferable. Image files may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, or burned onto a CD/DVD and mailed in to the address above. Size and resolution requirements are as follows: Standard interior photos: 4 inches square at 300dpi. Single-page opener: 8x 11 inches at 300dpi. Two-page opening spread: 11×17 inches at 300dpi » Do not manipulate the image in a photo editing program like Photoshop. Effects and alterations to a digital image frequently make it unusable for print—send the original, unaltered file. » Printouts of digital images are not accepted. Film Photography Requirements: All film photography should be shot on slide film unless specifically instructed otherwise by an editor. » Prints are generally not accepted.
