The brake lights at the rear of the car come on when you press down on the brake pedal.

It is arguably one of the most iconic automobiles in pop culture history. Right up alongside James Bond’s original Aston Martin DB5, Steve McQueen’s Mustang GT 390 from Bullitt and the Batmobile (whichever one’s your favorite; ours is the 1966 version featured in the TV show). It is the specially outfitted DeLorean DMC-12, the time machine that sent Marty McFly and Doc Brown into the past and Back to the Future in a trio of movies starting with the first in 1985. Now, thanks to Eaglemoss Collections, you can literally get under the hood – and everywhere else – of this legendary car as you build your own meticulously detailed 1/8-scale diecast replica.

“Few films are as iconic and loved as Back to the Future, and it’s a real pleasure to have worked on the model which is a thing of beauty,” said Ben Robinson, the man in charge of licensed products at Eaglemoss.

All Doc’s modifications have been carefully recreated from the nuclear reactor to the cables on the floor, and the model has a wealth of lights.

Underneath Doc Brown’s nuclear reactor on the back of the car, there’s a fully detailed replica of a real DeLorean V6 engine.

The finished model will be over 20” long, with metal body panels, gullwing doors and a wealth of working lights. No detail has been overlooked. All of Doc Brown’s modifications and personal touches have been reproduced inside and out – from the light up flux capacitor and folding seats to the rear end reactor and mess of cables on the floor.

Most of the lights are controlled by a series of switches on the central console, just as they were in the film.

The wheels can be tilted to create the version of the car that flies in Back to the Future II.

“As with all of our products, an enormous amount of research went into the model,” added Robinson, “and we owe a massive debt to our consultant, Joe Walser, who rebuilt the original car from the movie and knows more about it than anyone else alive. All-importantly, the DeLorean model is remarkably simple to build. We are confident that this new series will give anyone who builds it an enormous amount of pleasure and something to be proud of.”
