Axel Foley’s Chevy Nova from ACME

Beverly Hills Cop might not be the first movie you think of for automotive eye-candy–unless you really dig chase scenes with GMC Astro big-rigs squashing Ford Grenadas! But hero Axel Foley’s bedraggled 1970 Chevy Nova does get plenty of screentime–often puffing and snorting past Beverly Hills regulars from Mercedes, Rolls-Royce and Porsche. (And how many of you now have Harold Faltermeyer’s awesome BHC theme song stuck in your heads?) BHC

Its a fun and memorable film–with Eddie Murphy at the peak of his action-comedy appeal. ACME figured that was all the justification they needed to adapt the old 1:18 GMP tooling into a movie version of Axel’s Nova. We agree, although the rust and primer-free finish has us echoing Axel’s sentiment when he gets cuffed and stuffed into a BH police cruiser:

“This is the cleanest and nicest police car I’ve ever been in in my life. This thing’s nicer than my apartment!”

And just in case you do dig GMC Astro big-rigs squashing Grenadas (because, really, who doesn’t?).

And now you have the Pointer Sisters ‘Neutron Dance’ stuck in your heads instead of the themesong! You’re welcome!
