Top Liner: Brooklin’s 1:43 1955 Packard Four Hundred

Brooklin 1955 Four Hundred 2-Door Hardtop 1:43 | $135.00

While Packard’s 1955 bodies looked new, they were in fact structurally the same as their predecessors, wearing a major external face-lift that created a longer, lower, slab-sided look amplified by horizontal trim and tri-tone color schemes. What was new was Packard’s first V-8 engine and torsion-bar suspension. At the top of the line was the Four Hundred 2-Door pillarless hardtop – the subject of the latest white-metal model from Brooklin. Here, our British friends have used their chromed “birdcage” top with a painted roof insert to provide plated surrounds for all the windows; all the major pieces of side trim are plated and serve as separation lines for the beautifully executed “White Jade/Sardonyx” tri-tone colors, and only the relief-cast Packard scripts and letters have not been picked out. Brooklin has, however, omitted the small C-Pillar badges and “The Four Hundred” scripts from the wide front fender trim. This sample’s paint shows just a little orange peel, and the pink color, while matching published photos, doesn’t match a slightly browner “Sardonyx” paint chip. Brooklin has captured the restyled lines of the ’55 Packard very accurately and dimensions check out; bright colors and plentiful trim will make this one a standout in any collection. – Wayne Moyer
