GreenLight 1:43 Jeeps: Social Climbers

GreenLight 2012 Jeep “Mountain” and “Arctic” 1:43 | $15.00

Cheap Jeeps are always fun to have around, and if you have a car kid on your short list – or just like the looks of the special editions that Jeep occasionally breaks out – these inexpensive, yet attractively done 1:43 models of the Jeep Wrangler “Arctic” and “Mountain” might fit the bill. These first rolled out at the Geneva Auto Show as options on the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, toting 280-plus horse V6 power and theme-y interiors, not to mention exterior color choices that ranged from “Geecko” (shown) to “Dozer”. With a body-colored top and a Yeti footprint on its front fender, the blue Arctic Edition is marketed for “Extreme Adventure”; the “Mountain” favors exploration below the frost line. All of the edition-specific markings for both are here and in all the right places. The light diecast bodies feature removable roofs, and the interiors, though too glossy to be correct, are nonetheless fairly completely detailed, right down to each Jeep’s distinctive seat badging. Underneath, the models have straight steel axles, and roll like crazy on well-marked Good Year Wrangler tires; there’s even a dollop of chassis detail to make for a more convincing profile. All in all, not a bad trip to take, for the money. – Joe Kelly, Jr.
