While we’re talking desirable Challengers, we would be remiss if we did not discuss the all-time most famous Challenger star car from the counter-culture cult car classic Vanishing Point. Lone driver Kowalski blasts across the scenic western countryside from Denver to San Francisco at the wheel of an ivory 1970 R/T, banging shifts through the pistol-grip-equipped 4-speed and laying copious strips of bias-ply rubber!
Diecast replicas of Kowalski’s ride are something of cult classics too. A couple of models with full movie licensing have been made, plus numerous ‘unofficial’ versions.
The newest stunt-double version to bear a striking resemblance to the movie star Vanishing Point Challenger — right to its 1970-vintage Colorado license plate “OA-5599” — is GreenLight’s 1:18 383 R/T.
One of our favorite ‘unofficial’ VP Challengers was Highway 61’s. It had correct tags too, but it was a 440-Six-Pack car.
For 1:64 collectors Johnny Lightning served up this.
