GreenLight Collectibles Road Race Series 3 1:64|$5.99 each
Trying to follow the many twists and turns of a road course takes a certain level of skill – and so does following the incredible pace at which GreenLight can make a series of cars appear, then disappear. No, it’s not magic – it’s savvy marketing and truly entertaining product that does the trick, time after time. With that in mind, we were tweaked (in the best possible way) by the maker’s “Road Race” release 3, an eclectic blend of six cars that includes real world rides: Warren Agor’s 1970 Camaro, TPN/Blackfroest Racing’s 2010 Dodge Challenger, Blackfroests’s 2011 Ford Mustang, Sebastian Bourdais’ 2008 McDonalds Champ Car, a Ford Focus ST “Racing Concept”, and probably the coolest of the bunch, a slick little take on Mark Donahue’s 1971 Javelin AMX. That last car comes on a different card, as a last-moment “surprise” release that celebrates GL’s tenth year. All but the Champ Car and the Focus have opening hoods, and all the cars feature full interiors and nice chassis detailing. The green wheels and chassis of our sample Challenger add another twist to the story – it’s a “Green Machine” chase car – but the overall fun of these metal-bottomed, highly detailed buggers is reason enough to seek them out. – Joe Kelly, Jr.
