Meet the Professor

Meet the Professor

Come meet The Professor in his classroom at Designs In Motion, in Chesterfield, MO. Well, okay … Greg White, owner of the shop, isn’t really a prof. But he is a diecast aficionado and collector par excellence who could easily teach a university-level class on automotive and racing history. Greg works hard on a daily basis to help his customers select just the right model for their collections, drawing on an amazing depth and breadth of knowledge; and Designs In Motion is one of the nicest walk-in shops in the country, dedicated to diecast model cars, books and automobilia.

Chesterfield is a booming upscale suburb of St. Louis, located just 29 miles due west of the famed Gateway Arch. Designs In Motion is located near the corner of Chesterfield Airport Road and Long Road. Besides Greg’s store, Chesterfield is home to Chesterfield Commons—the longest strip mall in the country. That’s a nice feature to note, if you’re lucky enough to be within driving distance of the store, and want to drop your travel companion off for some shopping while you browse.

Greg has been entertaining and educating his customers since 1995, and specializes in 1:18 and 1:43 models, along with books and accessories. He can also help people familiar with subjects in 1:24 and 1:12. No matter what your “major” at any given time, Designs In Motion’s selection will include over 3,000 pieces, featuring new releases as well as older issues that they acquire from people wanting to re-focus their collections. That arrangement helps collectors pick up models they missed the first time around.

So, if you’re looking for something specific, or just want to browse, this shop should be high on your list of stops, especially on the weekends, where you just may find a car show taking place. Many of the local car clubs (Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Mustang and Corvette) schedule Greg’s parking lot for weekend get-togethers. On any day, Greg’s shop is a magnet that attracts the local automobile and racing cognoscenti.

But don’t fret if you’re beyond the distance for a comfortable weekend jaunt: Designs In Motion also does a healthy mail order business, and puts out a weekly email blast detailing the newest inventory circulating through the shop. The formula works, and they’ve amassed a slew of loyal customers from around the globe who have come to value Greg’s encyclopedic knowledge and great customer service.
Any questions? Good. Class dismissed.
