When flipping the channels until finding Speed, broadcasts of a Barrett-Jackson auction event can easily mesmerize any car guy and quickly suck up an entire day. For 1:64-scale diecast collectors, missing out on the live action means that some of the notable sales will be released in scale, albeit in limited production runs of 3,500 units. Hitting the market in May 2010 will be these authentic replicas of cars sold at auction featuring opening hoods, detailed engines, real rubber tires, metal body and chassis, detailed graphics, custom license plates and officially licensed by the respective automobile companies.

“These cars archive a past of limited editions and renewed character,” said Mathew Elliot, director of production at GreenLight. “What stood out about these cars is their deep and varied history in automobile archives.”

From the 1966 Chevrolet Corvette that has been through a frame-off restoration, to the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette 427 kept in mint condition from original purchase, these models come from every stage of life.  The 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge was one of 17 and then only one of six with a 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission.  The 1968 Plymouth HEMI GTX is referred to as the “Gentleman’s Muscle Car” but with the addition of the optional HEMI engine was only one of 450 made.  The 1971 Plymouth ’Cuda, a big-block convertible, was only 1 of 128 and the 1966 Shelby GT-350 was completely restored with the original numbers matching the motor.  Each car has its own story of survival and accomplishments, bound to make any car enthusiast passionate and now collectors can own an authentic replica.
